MONDAY
NOVEMBER 6, 1961 - SPRINGFIELD,OHIO
We left early, had
breakfast and headed for Columbus,Ohio. We stopped & had the
600 mile oil change. We did about 275 miles still going slowly as we haven’t
reached our 1000 mile speed up time. We‘re just outside of Springfield, Ohio
and heading for Indianapolis,Indiana in AM.
TUESDAY
NOVEMBER 7, 1961 - ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI
We really hit the road
today & covered 400 miles. This we couldn‘t do sooner as we just passed the
1000 mile mark. We‘re on Highway 66 now. This will take us
through. Most of the highways are pretty good, not so here in Illinois, all
single highways. I wrote 2 letters, 1 for Striend in New Jersey about Max and 1
to our lawyer Brown.
WEDNESDAY
NOVEMBER 8, 1961 – TULSA,OKLAHOMA
Room $7.50 (Oasis), we
drove over 400 miles again today. The car is realty fine. We‘re getting about
25 miles per gallon. Most of the Missouri highways were fine until the end.
We’re more than halfway home, the hardest driving is past. Wide open spaces
from now on until L.A. Just washed my hair, I want to look nice. Boy did I put
on weight around my tummy. I must start but fast & get it off.
THURSDAY
NOVEMBER 9, 1961 - AMARILLO,TEXAS
We landed in Amarillo,
Texas. We had a lovely room, radio & morning coffee, what more could one
ask for. Chas. got Car serviced & very nice folks too. Also got a haircut
this was much needed also. We did better mileage in the wide open spaces. Had
dinner, later beer & still later beddie.
FRIDAY
NOVEMBER 10, 1961 - FLAGSTAFF,ARIZONA
Left 6:30 AM we drove over
600 miles today from Amarillo, Texas to here. Pretty good huh? I’ve had a
stomach ache all day. Hope it‘s better tomorrow. On several occasions when
Chas. applied the gas the car would jerk back and forward. Each time I asked
about it Chas. got sore, finally the last time I asked he bopped me on the head
with his fist, ah love!
